Following the wide range of events and activities which have flooded social media over Mental Health Awareness week, Deep Down are making a conscious decision to opt in. We are opting in to our community and to the challenges facing community arts groups in the current financial climate. We have been meeting to look at the state of play at grassroots community level and we have decided that we believe that the population are depressed due to trauma, poverty, lack of services and lack of leadership since our elected representatives are not going to work. Our group is made up of experienced professionals who have worked for some time in community development and mental health, artists with a track record of supporting wellbeing and people with lived experience. We all agree that austerity and arts cuts have had a devastating impact on our community. While we can’t wave a magic wand to ‘fix’ the mental health of the population, we aim to provide accessible arts in order to support wellbeing as best we can. We also aim to appropriately support artists as they serve the community.
Deep Down is a group of people who believe passionately in the power of art to support mental health. We believe in the values of inclusion and participation. If you want to opt in to our mailing list, please email us on firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are a committed and passionate individual who cares about the wellbeing of the Co Down community and you would like to join us as we further develop our board, please contact us on email@example.com.
